Comparative returns of telegrams for the March quarter has been published. The number forwarded waß 392,147, being an increase of 59,432 on the corresponding quarter m the previous year. Cash received, £21,993 Cs 6d, being £3006 0s Od, more than m the same quarter m 1878. Value of Government work done £2094 14s 4d more than m corresponding of previous year. Bank returns for the quarter ending 31st March show total liabilities £10,200,500 19s 2d ; total asssets, £17,038,352 Is lOd ; total deposits at interest, £4,976,816 17s ' 4d ; not ar, interest, £3,302,431 8s Id ; Government deposits £309,125 18s 6d ; notes m circulation £1,028,525 12s 5d ; coin held, £1,704,191 7a 4d ; bullion m bars, £154,332 18s 8d , notes and bills discounted, £6,725,720 12s Id ; Government securities held £497,384 12s 3d ; debts due to Banks not abandoned as bad, £7,246,760 18s 4d ; securities not otherwise included, £343,414 2s Bd.
