Floods in Napier.

NAPIER,

This Day. The anticipations of those who feared floods on the Ahijiiri Plains have been realised, and the worst appears yet to come. The Tutaekuri River is swollen by heavy rains, which have fallen fur a week past up country. The river rose over its banks yesterday morning, and by eleven o'clock the water was over the Meanee Koad. It contiuued to rise rapidly, and at sis o'clock horses attached to several carts which were bound to town, had to swim when they reached the lowest portion of the road between Tareha's Bridge, and the township. The houses at the township were under water in the afternoon, and after sundown the houses at Tareha's Bridge • were also flooded, and after that hour, all traffic had to be suspended. The new Taradale Koad ia also impassable, water rushing over it in an immense body, aud the settlers felt some fears for the new bridge. The Taradale township was not under water when lasc advices left ; but the settlers between the village and Meanee had, in some instances, several feet of water in their houses. At Olive the flood was anticipated, aud ths settlers were preparing for it. The Ngaruroro River was level with its banks, and a very little wore water would cause it to surround the township. The glass is still falling, and rain coming down in torrents, giving slight hope of line weather to-day. Relief boats will visit the settlers this morning.
