r ■ t ' This Day. The relieving officer, Mr. Johnson, sued two well-off young farmers m the Poriru* district for neglecting to contribute to the Biipport of their parents. The father is a cripple, almost blind, and 72 years of age. The mother is a decrepid old woman, aged 69. The poor old people hajve for many years subsisted on charity. Mr. Whitehouse, the grocer, spent no lesß than £300 on then* m the course of several years. They had also got assistance from the Benevolent 'Institution. The defendants coolly told the magistrate they did not consider their poor father and mother had any claim upon them. Mr. Mansford characterised the case as a scandal and a disgrace to humanity, and ordered the hard-hearted young .men to support their parents, who had reared them. They intimated they would not be able to obey the order. The magistrate said they would have to find means to pay 7s. 6d. a week each, and he would^^ipel them to obey the order. " The case against Mr. Kinross, of Napier, for alleged perjury, was yesterday adjourned bycpnserit for a fortnight. In the Supreme Court R. J.
