This Day. * The Governor visited some of the Eublic institutions yesterday, and a ivee and a ball took place m the evening. To-day his Excellency resumes his tour of inspection through the city. The Kaiapoi School Committee has obtained judgment agaiust several parents under the compulsory clause m the Education Act. The Directors of the Union Fire and Marine Insurance of New Zealand have decided to postpone the dates of calls to November 7th. and Bth. The Belfast Meat Preserving Factory, 6 miles out of Christchurch, was partially burned early yesterday morning. There were some 40,000 tins of meat. A portion of which were burned, and the vats contained 1,000 sheep. The aggregate of insurances was £8,767, divided among Transatlantic, New Zealand, Victoria, South British, Standard and National offices. It is not known how the fire originated. J. King, auctioneer, filed his schedule yesterday. The liabilities are reported to be £25,000. WaW loses about £6,000 by the fire at Belfast Meat Preserving Factory. He commences work immediately m the premises at Templeton, formerly used by a meat preserving company.
