1 May 2. Mr. Berry sails to-morrow. Dr. Pearson remains. Mr. "Berry is the bearer of despatches from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, regretting the want of a greater spirit of accommodation on both sides. He regrets that Mr. Berry proposes to amend the constitution by Imperial Legislation, since it is one of extreme urgency that has arisen to justify such a measure. The readiest, means to harmonise the two Chambers would be to anake both Coiineil and Assembly dissoluble. The* Chambers should act like the. British^ Parliament. The Council should yield' to public opinion m order to avoid a conflict. Bills of supply should be limited to provisions, and analagous to English bills. The Council 'should claim no other rights m dealing with them than the. Lords possesses. : The Baily Ifeubs publishes a paragraph, stating that the Prince of Wales will visit the Melbourne Exhibition. ■• ' \ May 5. The Board of Trade returns of ex- , ports for the last month continue- very unfavorable.
