As an instance of the energy with which local Boards are sometimes galvanised, we may draw attention, with satisfaction, to the Road Works executed by the Watkohu Road Board, of which Mr. Chambers is chairman. That energetic body of men, under the able engineering of Mr. Banneld, has opened an excellent line of road from Patutahi to Mr. Scott's, on the west side of the Waipaoa River, by which at any season of the year, and at any time of day or night the traveller may pass ftom Gisborne to Motu undeterred by flood or fell. The bridges are substantial structures, built of the best material procurable, crossing streams of from 70 to 180 feet. The cost of this very important work, opening up some otherwise unavailable country, and cutting through some heavy rocks from seven to eight miles, including b) idges, amounts to the ridiculously small suvn of £100. Gentlemen of other local Boards, particularly the C. C, go ye and do likewise. B. m
