In the House of Lords, in reply to a question, Lord Cranbrook said the Government had received no news from India which in any way confirmed the reported rupture in the Afghan negotiations. Lord Beaconsaeld said the enquiry into the cause of the present depression in trade and agriculture co'uld not have any practical result, but possibly an enquiry into the effects of the depreciation in the value of silver may hereafter become necessary. The Queen has arrived in Italy.
