ESCAPE OF TWO CHILDREN FROM A HORRIBLE DEATH.

Says the Wellington Chronicle; of the 28th inst. A most exciting scene occurred on Cambridge-avenue about 5.30 last evening. The tram-train was going along a rapid speed when two little children about four years of age were seen standing right m the middle of the line, only a short distance ahead. The alarm was at once given, and the breaks were put hard down. Word was passed along the whole line of carriages of the impending danger and the most intense excitement prevailed amongst the passengers. When the engine had got within a yard of the little ones, who stood gazing m stnpilied amazement at the puffing and snorting, monster, the driver managed to bring the train to a dead stop. Another instant and the children would have been crushed to death.
