The Waimate Disturbance. Hawera.

March 29. The Natives who can be depended on, say that if the surveyors are sent on the Plains again, they will be turned off, and if an armed force be sent with them, they will be met with an armed force by Maories. The matter is not to be played with, and the Government had better be prepared before anything harsh is done. Settlera are unprotected and there are no spare rifles m the District. There is only a small Volunteer Cavalry Corps here, and the Waihi Constabulary would have their hands full m holding the fort. If the worst came to the worst, a volunteer corps of stout-hearted men could be easily raised ; only time must be given. In consequence of the latest telegrams the Government have- received from Waimate Plains, Mr. Sheehan is determined to proceed thither at the earliest opportunity.
