OUR ORMOND LETTER.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The most important news this week has, iiufortunately, been Mr. Bidgood's house and stables burnt down level with the ground. This has been a moat unfortunate affair for him, as he lias been rendered homeless, putting him to a tremendous amount of expense, by having to take hotel residence for his wife, family and employes ; besides stabling, &c. The grass is coming on splendidly since the last refreshing rains. Every paddock "is now looking more or less verdant. Stock appears to gain condition rapidly. An Assessment Court was held here on Thursday, but there was no appeal made against the Valuation List ; consequently the Judge signed the Assessment sheets, as rendered to him by the Clerk of the District, without any amendment, or reduction of valuation. There is one advertisement I notice not in our papers that generally takes place about this time of the year. I refer to the Waeranga-a-hika " Queen's Birthday Races. " Surely they intend to give us our annual treat ; if they would, I am sure they would be well patronised. Surely they do not intend to leave us without any sport this year on that memorable event. [Our correspondent will see by advertisement that the Secretary has called a meeting.] Business is very dull. Money more than scarce ; iu fact, nil.
