THE BLOCK VOTE.
A handbill imploring Roman Catholics to use the block vote against Here* tical representatives for Parliament was lately distributed at St. Joseph's Oh urch, Dunedin. It contained '■• the- following passage :— " For God and St. Patrick, Catholics of Dunedin,, now that the approach of the anniversary of St. Patrick'brings before you, whatever land you belong to, the labors that great men of old did not shrink from incurring m the service of the Church — and Irish Catholics especially, who must feel your spirit stirred by the recollection of how bravely your fathers vindicated their love of the faith of St. Patrick ; and how nobly sustained m their glorious resistance they were by that inestimable faith ; remember, that m your measure, far removed' indeed from that of the Saint or of the men of whom we speak, but still all important to you when yeu are called upon to do your utmost m defence of the Catholic. Church, ever menaced by, a myriad of enemies-^your only force-fbe it strong or be it weak, lies m the block vote; Make yourselves ready, then, totake advantage of ■it m the. > elections that now cannot be long. deferred.. Register, register, register, one and all, who are entitled to the 'franchise — and you who have children m their defence, and you who Tiave not, m ; defence of your friends, and all united m defenoe ' of the Catholic faith.
