TO "ANTI-HUMBUG."

Sir, — Not knowing who you are, I write per favor of the Editor of the Herald, to explain why my letter of a short time back appeared. I assure you I was under the impression that the editor of the Standard was making an effort to keep his paper up to the tone to which it was raised by Mr. James Browne, when he was connected with it. On further enquiry, however, I find that it has long since returned to its old standard, its amenities of late being, I believe, principally directed towards the above-named gentleman, who really was its best friend. Had I been aware of this, I should not even have seen the article whioh I rebuked. I am &c., J. B. Poynter.
