GISBORNE ROWING CLUB.

The return match between the Heavy and the Light crews came off last night, and reversed the order of places. The start was made about five o'clock, and the Lights, in the Undine, got well away, leading the Heavies by about half a length, and just as the Heavies were improving their position the coxswain lost one of his tiller-ropes overboard, which put them completely out of the race, as bow side was not strong enough to pull against the set of wind and tide, which drove them ashore three times, and on the last the coxswain jumped overboard and picked up his line, but it was then too late in the day, as the Undine was nearly home.

It was a great disappointment to both orews, as they had determined to row it out to the end, with a full determination to win.

The captain of the Club, Mr. Boylan, has picked out two junior crews to man the boats for next Saturday fortnight, the Bth proximo, when it is expected another hard tussle for victory will occur. These are— W. O'Ryan, A. Carrick, J. Kennedy, and H. G. Johnson. G. Wyllie, C. E Major, G. L. Greenwood, and W. J. Quigley, and, as they go into practice at once, we may look forward to another good race. It is also intended, if possible, to have a match next Saturday between Scratch Fours, to be selected promiscuously from among the members of the club.
