KENTISH LABOURERS FOR NEW ZEALAND.
■ A contributor to the "Mark Lane Express' comments as follows on the emigration of the 600 Kentish labourer! for New Zealand : —" It appears that Mr Simmons has given up the idet | of taken his Union men to enter upon the possession of that magnificent esute of 5000 acres m Canada, andis.goingnltt.il* New Zealand with them instead.., ,H« says he will take 500 or 600* of theftnen to the latter colony, and he is now opjffl.... to receive applications from those' "WHCT" wish to go. It remains tp be seen how many will accept the offer. No doubt . New Zealand is preferable to,- Canada as a field for labourers.' If the' Kent labourers think they can do betfefco iiQ New Zealand than m Kent,: by aIT t means let them emigrate. I think, however, that the conduct of Colonial Government m coming forward when* ever there is an agricultural labottr dispute m this country, and offering ireeV passages to the men, is somewhat objectionable. It serves them right* if they get a lot of ne'er-do-wells who ~ are almost foremost m a strike." ■ ' ' — ' ' ■- 1 M;r
