THE CHAMPION SWIMMER.
The Mr. F. Cavill, who, according to late telegrams, swam fifteen miles m the Yarra, is thus described m the Argus :— Professor Cavill, who arrived by the s. s. Somersetshire, has come 1 out to the Australian colonies for the purpose of exhibiting his swimming powers. Mr. Cavill is known as a highly successful long-distance swimmer. Amongst his feats may be mentioned his three swims from London Bridge to Greenhithe, a distance of over 22 miles, m five hours and a quarter ; from Southampton- to Portsmouth, 22 miles, m seven hours 35 minutes ; and from Dover to Ramsgate m six. hours. , His greatest achievement, however, was his swim across the English Channel, from Cape Grisnez, m France, to the South Foreland, which he performed m a. little over twelve hours. Mr. Cavill has brought with him two 1 of his children, who are described as being exceedingly clever m the water. ,
