March 10. The workmen of Messrs Angus and Co., brickmakers, &c, have subscribed £21 to the Kaitangata relief fund, while the men employed at the Mataura paper mill gave a day's pay. His Worship the Mayor and the Councillors of Invercargill, accompanied bj r the town clerk, paid a visit x)f inspection to-day to the Dunstable Creek, the source of the proposed water supply for the town. The party started early m the morning, and only returned about! 11 p.m. The distance to the creek m question is about 25 miles. The object of the expedition was to ascertain the the nature of the country above the present water reserve, with the view of obtaining some additional higher land up the creek, so as to, if possible, secure a greater pressure, by carrying the mains about a mile furthur, to allow of the creek being tapped at a higher elevation. The result of the expedition was considered highly satisfactory, and steps will be taken to obtain the necessary land.
