DUNEDIN.
This Day. Drake, Collins, and Dodson, of the Empire Hotel, were charged on Saturday with holding consultations and Calcutta sweeps on the Dunedin Races. The facts were admitted m both cases, but the question was whether such sweeps were an infringment of the law. The Bench reserved its decision. The Captain of the barque Easter Hill has been charged with having neglected to attempt to save the lad who fell frona the mast and was drowned or killed, on the voyage to Port Chalmers. The case will be heard on Wednesday.
