EXPLORATION IN NORTH-WEST AUSTRALIA.

A correspondent sends the Argus from Perth, Western Australia, some . particulars of the exploring expedition which is being despatched by the Western Australian Government under the leadership of Mr. Alexander Forrest, whose name, as also that of his brother, Mr. John Forrest, is so well known in connection with Australian exploration : — "Leaving Perth on January 16 for Roebourne on the north coast with thirty horses and packs, the expedition on quitting Roebourne will follow near the seaboard as far as the Fitzroy Riverj thence upwards to its head water. The whole of the country between Roebourne and the Victorian River will be explored, and it is hoped that valuable results will follow. The services of Mr; Hill from Melbourne, have been secured to act as Government geologist. From the Victorian River the expedition will, if possible, go on to Port Darwin, and most probably return via the eastern colonies. It is also considered possible that the remains of the long-lost Dr. Leichardt will be brought to light. The expedition is equipped by the Government, with the exception of the horses, which are provided by Messrs. Grant and others. The party will consist of Mr. Forrest as leader, Mr. Hill second in command, and Messrs. Matthew Forrest, James Carey, Arthur Hicks, John Campbell, and natives Tommy Dower and Wardick. The party will be fully armed and equipped for six months, and may be expected to arrive at Port Darwin about Septembr next."
