AUCKLAND.

March 6. • It has been raining here all last night and during the greater part of to-day. Floods are reported from several of the country districts. There is another mining spurt at the Thames : Moanataire's risen to 60s. The Maori meeting was continued today. Among the resolutions passed, was one, declaring they would not return any more members to the House of Representatives ; but would accept a Maori parliament instead. j A Royal Commission has been appointed to enquire into the matter of the Bay of Islands roll. Sittings commenced at Russell to-day. Mr. Williams, late Returning Officer, was examined. The proceedings will occupy about five weeks. A meeting of persons interested m the timber, grain, and shipping trades was held to-day. There was a numerous attendance. The object of the meeting was to obtain reimposiHon of duties on timber and grain which were removed last session, as it is asserted that the removal has been injurious to the interests of Auckland and prejudcial to the shipping trade of the port. A Committee was appointed to consider the best steps to be taken to carry out the desire of the meeting. It is intended to interview Sir George Grey on the subject, m order to ascertain his sentiments. It is also intended to take steps for placing on the rolls all persons who are interested m the matter.
