Grave apprehensions are felt m Auckland regarding the Ohaupo swamp por tion of the railway line, which is sinking considerably, embarrassing the railway management. The earth cracks through the dry weather, and the weight of the train causes the rails to sink. Two engines kept exclusively for crossing the swamp had the cow-catcher removed. Some rails sank twice m one day.
