OUR ORMOND LETTER.
(from our own correspondent. )
March sth 1879.
Last night the inhabitants were thrown m a state .of great excitement, owing a fire m Mr. Malcolm Macdonald's barn, at the "Bungalow." From the township many thought it was Mr Ross's house, on fire at Combermere. The barn was situated at the rear of a house lately occupied by Mr. John Breingan. Luckily the wind was not blowing m the direction of the house, or that would have been destroyed. The fire is supposed to have originated from some oaten hay that was inside, and fired through being stored too new. It is with pleasure we have had a visit from Mr. Winter, the Cook County Council Surveyor, marking off the cuttings. This must evidently mean business, at an early date, and not before required. Business at the present time, appears rather dull, with us, no demand for labor-; but if we have rain m a short time, no doubt we shall hear enquiries for grass seed sowers, ploughmen, &c. ORMOND ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Ormond Road Board was held on March 3rd. Present : — The Chairman (Mr. J. Villers), Messrs Ross and Bach. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A petition was read from Messrs G. Jackson, J. Murphy, and others, re clearing bye road from Mr. Jones's property to Mr. Chambers's crossing. A circular from the Colonial Secretary's office, Wellington. The Board resolved to call tenders for the work required on bye road from Mr. Jones's property to Chambers's crossing. The Secretary was instructed to advertise a final notice for payment of rates. The following accounts were passed and paid, Mr. H. E. Webb, £2 9s, advertising ; J. Adams, £2 7s 6d, stationery ; Paviour, £10, valuator.
