CORRESPONDENCE.
RE WATER CISTERNS.
[We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.]
[To the Editor of the Evening Herald.]
Sir, — I beg leave to say, m addition, that my scheme of small wells, easily emptied, is intended to provide against stagnant sea water under the town. Most persons know that sea water corrupts much quicker than fresh, and is even much more offensive than the latter. A modification could, if put m progress, be made an easy occasion of permanent drainage to the town ; indeed the drainage and water supply could be worked out at the same time, purposing the latter as a necessary aid m flushing the former when required. Of course you will understand that I merely write you the crude idea.^The cost is a matter of easy calculation," which I could enter into if of use.— l amy 'Ac., Viator.
