AUCKLAND.

March 4. A northern settler has sent to Auckland seven loads of grapes grown on one rood of ground, and he thinks 2£d. per pound will pay him. Intense interest is manifested m the City West elections. Twenty-nine upholders of secular education left the Thames yesterday to vote for Mr. Goldie. Heavy rain was experienced here yesterday. At the Orakei meeting yesterday Arama Maraka said, where the Government bought land for a few pence an acre from the Maoris, and sold it for a pound, they ought to distribute part of the money among the original holders. The meeting also protested against the taxation of land, and discussed the game laws. The natives will send delegates to the King meeting, but are doubtful whether it will result m any good.
