Elsewhere, m our columns, we publish a carefully-prepared, and, we trust, an accurate statement of our staple products for this season m Poverty Bay. The returns we give are for wool, grass seed, maize and tallow, not having been able as yet to get the number of sheep, horses and cattle shipped since Ist January of the present year. In despite of the great depression prevailing generally throughoutcthe Colony, we think the people of the Bay may fairly congratulate themselves that the season's exports reach close upon £60,000 received m hard cash, to be paid away for labor employed ; for necessai'y farm and station supplies, while leaving surpluses for a " stand-by" should undue pressure happen. We believe that Gisborne is exceptionally prosperous m those enterprises and industries which give employment to a large working population engaged m the healthiest of pursuits.
