MORE LUCK— THE GLASGOW BANK.
It is gratifying (remarks the^all Mall Gazette) to hear one instant? of good luck in connection' with the great calamity w^hich has caused such wide- * spread distress in Scotland. A very 1 singular instance of this kind is related * by a correspondent who writes to us as follows :— an old lady with a fair fortune of £10,000, had alegaoy left her of -£9090. This, after much cogitation, shcy following her' Free Church clergyman and other religious authorities, invested in the Glasgow Bank ; and for some years drew the dividends satisfactorily. Then came the failure ; and the lady was distracted by the thought of 'the future beggary. Her neighbours got, their calls ; but. she (as it seeriied frbm^.the special hard heartedness of the liquidators) did not get even the notice vouchsafed to others anxious to make arrangements and prepare a retreat from the wreck. She went to Edinburgh to consult lawyers as to the failure of notice, and after enquiry found that her agent is at present eluding the police ; in fact, that in additionto' other frauds, he has pocketed her £2000. and has been paying her interest ; 6ui of fh» money. The old lady has lost her £2000, but has saved the £10,000.
