This Day.

(Before H. Kenrick, Esq., R.M.)

Assault. The only case at die Police Court this morning was a charge preferred by Thomas Sawyer, cook arid waiter at the Albion Hotel, against Thomas Woods, washer-up and bottle cleaner at the Albion Hotel. The information charged the defendant with having assaulted the complainant., and with threatening to stab him with a knife. The whole affair was graphically told by the complainant, his statement being confirmed by a witness. Thomas Sawyer, sworn, said ; I was washing up some things yesterday when the defendant came into the kitchen and said " You are doing my work." I said " Tommy, I am doing this because you were beery last night." Defendant abused me, and said, " Will you come out into the yard and fight." I said I would. We went out and had a round. I said, " Tommy, have you had enough 1" He said "Yes, enough for the present." Then soon after I see him with a brick, which he was going to shy at me. I shut the door, and he shyed the brick at that. Afterwards I see him take out a knife, when he threatened to stab me. I thought this was a case for the police, and I went and gave him m charge. The plaintiff abmitted, upon being questioned, that he too had had something more than was good for him. The magistrate lined the defendant £2, or m default one week's imprisonment. The prisoner said if he paid the fine it would take all he had got. He would rather not pay. Prisoner was then taken out of cour to do his sentence.
