Wanganui, January 8. George Buckland Worgan was charged m the R.M. Court with uttering a forged cheque for £75 to F. Hall, butcher. The cheque purports to be signed by Jas» MacKay, Native Land Agent, who declares the cheque to be a forgery. The defence is that the cheque was received by Worgan m good faith, and paid away by him m good faith. Mr. Webzel, a local shoemarker, is preparing preserved meat for the Sydney Exhibition, lie uses purified wood and vinegar. The meat keeps any time, all nutruitive qualities being presen cd.
Auckland, Saturday. The schooner race between the Toria and Transit, resulted m favor of the catter, by 3 hours and 33 minutes.
