14 SUDDEN DEATHS FROM INTENSE HEAT.

PLEURO PNEUMONIA BROKEN OUT IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

TWO SENSATIONAL SUICIDES,

Sydney, This Day. A man named Arthur Campbell was found 2 o'clock this morning in the Domain, desperately wounded by a bullet. He stated that he was attacked by 2 men, and shot and robbed. The statement is doubted, and suicide suspected. His recovery is doubtful. The heat in the interior is terrific. At Wilsama, to-day, the thermometer was 125 in the shade. Fourteen sudden deaths have occurred there in 10 days ascribed to the intense heat. Private advices, by mail, state that colonial securities stand well in the market. Pleura Pneumonia Has appeared among Cattle in the Naraibiri district.

A four-oard whale boat has been washed ashore at Double Island, Queensland. The beach is strewn with cocoanuts. Tt is surmised that a Levuka vessel has been wrecked.

Brisbane, January 31. A baker, named Martin has attempted suicide. He tied two bags, each with a fourteen-pound weight round his body and ■walked into the river. He was dragged out by some boys, in time to save his life.

Melbourne, Yesterday. The late John Thomas Smith, had an immense funeral. There are numerous candidates for his seat in the Legislative Assembly.
