A man named Hayward, '"an upholsterer, jumped off the Bridge at the Whau, a distance of 30 feet, into the bed of the river. He had been drinking lately, and was m the horrors. He still lives, and hopes are entertained of his recovery.

Nelson, This Day. At the City Nominations to-day, Acton Adams was proposed by J. Sclanders, of Sclanders and Co., and Mr. Pitt, by Mr. Richmond, M.H.R. The show of hands was m favor of Adams. The proceedings were lively, and lasted over three hours. The poll will be taken on February 6. There will be a battle between denominationalism and secularism.
