Lyttelton, January 20. Arrived— Bebbington, barque, from London, 101 days out, 99 from land to land. She brings 32 passengers, all well, and 1250 tons of cargo. She experienced a heavy gale while running down her easting and her bulwarks was smashed. Port Chalmers, January 20. Sailed— Mataura, barque, 873 tons, for London, with a cargo valued at £93,638. The number of wrecks reported for the past year to 9th of November amounted to 2195. . H.M.S. Cormorant, relieving ship to H.M.S. Sappho, anchored m Farm Cove (says the Sydney Morning Herald) at 9 a.m, on Tuesday, 17th instant. She is nearly a new vessel, having been built m July, 1874, this being her first commission. She is a composite corvette, with steel lining to the bulwarks, and is m every respect a remarkably smart vessel. Her armament consists of two 4£-ton guns, with a 7-inch bore, and throwing any projectile, with the exception of chilled shell. She has also 4 guns— 64 pounders, but the arrangement of the trayersers are of such a character that fthe whole of her armament can be utilised on either side. Her engines are of 900 horse power, and will produce a speed of 11 knots. She is fitted with a twobladed feathering propeller, and carries a compliment of 139 men all told. As a Beaboat her officers report of her as being all that could be wished, she having been well tried m heavy gales encountered m running down her easting. The Cormorant left Plymouth on 25th August, touched at Maderia on the sth September, the Cape of Good Hope on 2nd November, and lastly Freemantle, from whence she sailed on the 2nd December.
