POLICE CASES.

Assault. Denis Hogan was charged by Constable Strudwick with committing a breach of the peace, by fighting in the public streets, on the 12th inst. In consequence of the illness of the charging constable, the case was adjourned. Edward Johnson, charged with the same offence with the before mentioned defendant on the same date. Case adjourned for the same reason as in previous charge. Cruelty to a Horse. Denis Hogan was charged by Edward Johnson, with cruelty to a horse on the 12th inst. The offence was proved, when the defendent was fined ss. and costs of Court 12s. Attempt at Self-Murder. Peter Rigan was charged with stabbing and cutting himself, with intent to kill and murder himself, at Tokomaro, on the 16th inst. The case was remanded till Monday for evidence from the Court. The prisoner was admitted to bail, being now to all appearance of sound mind. Assault on a Half-Caste. Joseph Pickersgill was charged with assaulting Keriana Hinekuka, a halfcaste. The plaintiff had insulted defendant's wife, and pushed her off the verandah. The assault was of the most trifling character. Find ss. and 9s. costs.
