hunter. and nolans' weekly report. Horses—There has been increased activity m the market, both as as to the supply and demand. The number entered at the Durham Yards on Friday were up to the average. The bidding was spirited, and nearly all the lots weae cleared. There remained a demand for good, upstanding young geldings, and an enquiry for good draught mares. We quote : Hacks, from £5 las. to £16 10s. ; light-harness horses from £15 to £23 7s. 6d.; draught, £39. Cattle —There has been a good deal doing. The supply of dairy and fat beasts was large and there has been a corresponding demand. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, dairy cows were well represented, and realised prices satisfactory to the vendor. Stores were were m moderate numbers, and without material alteration m value. The butchers' pens were well filled, and there was a continuous steady demand throughout the sale; 113 were bought by the trade. We quote : Dairy cows, from £8 to £12 155.; store cows, from £3 ss. to £ss. ; calves and yearlings, from £2 Ids.' to £3 17s. 6d: grown steers, from £4 17s. 6d. to £6 ss. ; beef, from 245. to 30s. per 1001 b. Sheep have not been so plentiful as they were last month, and prices had a slight upward tendency for fat sheep. Store are being held over for the fair. Lambs were m moderate supply, and sold at from ss. 6d. to 12s. 6d. Pigs —Very few indeed yarded; no alteration m value.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agoncy Company (Limited) under date London, January 6th 1879, reports as follows : — Wool : Trade m the manufacturing districts is slightly better, and there has been a little private inquiry. Wheat : Market is quiet. Adelaide is worth 495, and New Zealand 44s per 4961b5. Tallow : Market is firm. Mutton 38s ; beef, 355. Leather : Market is also firm. 7400 Australian sides are advertised for sale on the 10th instant.
