» Jur attention has been directed tt , Aie site upon which the fire bell is aow placed. It is coutended tbat it is too high up on the Gladstone Road and should at once be removed to the " lower end of the town where it would be more quickly accessible to ring out an alarm. It is of coarse impossible ! to say m what part of the town a fire tuay first break out, but the probay bility is certainly m favor of where she buildings are densest. As the 'I. oell is now placed it allows of larrikin >oys, and we have too many of these !| m our midst, ringing out a false alarm, 111 as was lately the case, and which . y caused much unnecessary fear and mnoyance. We think that whe- ■ a. the brigade engines are, present er housed wouldj>jfafore"'nro ve r and to fix the bell. There, is if we do not mistake, money m hand which will pay for the cost of the" removal, as about eighteen months ago the town residents subscribed somewhere about £35 towards che purchase of a bell, and as this only cost £11, and but a small sum was expended m hanging it, there should be a sufficient balauce m hand to meet the necessary charges for removal.
