A stoby appears flying around respecting alleged difficulties which were being experienced m bringing the Land Tax into operation. These are purely imaginary. Of course the difficulty has to be encountered of creating and working new machinery. But this is being got over j the valuers have nearly all been appointed, and, being competent men, will doubtless do their work m a satisfactory way. The expenses of the first valuations will probably amount to £12,000 ; afterwards there will be a valuation made every three years, but as most of the necessary data will have been obtained m the first valuation, the succeeding valuations will cost much less.
