Napier, This Day. Last night, at about a quarter to 32, a man named Vernon Campbell was arrested by Constable Claney on a charge of uttering a forged cheque for £36. The cheque, which purported to be signed by A. McLean, was passed to Mr Monteith m payment for a horse, which Campbell had purchased for £12, Campbell receiving the balance m cash. The police have been on the look-out for Campbell for the last few days without success; but last night Constable Clancy, while m plain clothes, caught sight of a man on the beech, near Swan's private house, and effected a capture. At the 1.0. G.T. Grand Lodge session, yesterday, Bro. Fox was re-elected G.W.C.T. for the ensuing year, Bro. W. Johnson, Wellington, elected G.W. Counsellor; Bro. Jacques, Christchurch, elected G.W.S ; Bro. Phillips elected G.W. Chaplain; Bro. Ellis elected G.M. It was resolved that the next session be held at the Thames; failing there, New Plymouth.
