Towton — own brother to the Peer — by Melbourne, out of Cinizelli, By Touchstone, by Camel. £ Atalanta has been one of the most successful performers on *the New Zealand Turf. At 4 years old\-,won the Oamaru J. C. Handicap, and ran second to Glengarry m Dunedin J. G$ Handicap ; at 5 years won Free Handicap at Christchurch ; at Timaru won South Canterbury J. C. Handicap, Tradesman's Handicap, and Forced Handicap ; at 6 years won a number of races including Handicap at Dunstan. At the sale of Mr. Delamaine's stud, 13th November, 1877, she brought 250 guineas. PARTHENOPCEUS, a Dark Bay, rising 4 years old, is a splendid specimen of the Thoroughbred Horse, uniting m a remarkable degree Symmetry with Strength, being thus admirably adapted to get weight-carrying Hacks as well as Race Horses. He was solb^at the above mentioned sale for 350 guineas. Possessing the celebrated Traducer blood of his sire, and from his dam the blood of the still more celebrated Sir Hercules, he presents a combination of the most fashionable and successful strains m the Southern Hemisphere. Traducer stands this season m Canter* bury, at 100 guineas each mare. ParthenopoßUß, as a 3*year old, ran second to Trump Card for the Canter^ bury Derby, and immediately afterwards won the half-mile race, beating Bribery and other noted horses. Later m the season he won the Ashburton Handicap, beating Bide-a-wee and other cracks. Trump Card is entered for the Melbourne Cup, and occupies a prominent position m the list of favorites. The Australasian m speaking of the Sir Hercules blood remarked : "No family has gained such a reputation as that which descends from the Colonialbred Sir Hercules. In contests of every description the representatives of this line have achieved more than their share of popular triumph."
