KOWHAI INTERMEDIATE In his report to a meeting of* parents of scholars of the Ivowhai .Intermediate School, Auckland, the principal, Mr, J. F. Wells stated'that there are now Old pupils on the roll, As a result of the swimming classes which have been held in recent years, 95 per cent, of the pupils are now .able to swim. This* year, out of 137 nonswimmers, 90 have learned to swim. The report says the use of two wellequipped gymnasiums enables physical training to be carried out in all weathers. Personality classes, during which children arc instructed in conversational ease, social relationship and • etiquette, are also a.feature .of the curriculum.
A queen carnival held at the school raised £500., enabling much worh -in the, improvement of the buildings to be carried out.
It is interesting to note that the Principal, Mr. Wells, was at one time an assistant teacher at the Pa-lea School, whilst Patea’s present headmaster, Mr. E. C. Stratton, was for some years on the staff of the Kowhai School, part of which time he was in charge prior to Mr. Wells* appointment.
