ITEMS OF INTEREST Mrs. J. Julian, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Chas. Beauchamp. Mis s E. Collins, who has been visiting Patea, has returned to Huntervillo. Mrs. A. Ford and family, Pahiatua, arc the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. Hills, Mis s Winnie Johnson, of- Auckland, and at one time a resident of Patea, was a visitor to the town during the holidays, and was the guost of Mrs. H. Back. A lady with a huge brown paper parcel came out of the chiropodist's establishment. She was furiously angry, and said to the friend awaiting her: “Calls himself a chiropodist, and can’t stuff a dog!”
RECIPE • TO BOTTLE TOMATOES WHOLE This is a recommended recipe;— Boil 2ozs of salt with 2 quart s of water for 15 minutes. Let get quite cold, then pour over tomatoes previously packed in screw top jars. Put in the oven on first shelf from the bottom on a piece of sugar bag. Put the other oven shelf on top to cover. Cook until the skins show signs of cracking, then put on now rubber ring a and screw lids on tightly. Invert the bottles to make sure that they are airtight. A HINT Place tiny pieces of toilet soap that have collected in a pot, and heat well until softened. Stir in a taJblespoonful of oatmeal, form the soap into balls, and you have a splendid cleanser for the .hands.
