Two Hollywood motion picture stars figured in elopement marriages on Monday. Jackie Oakic halted at Yuma, Arizona, for a few minutes on route to New York and married Veuita Varden, a screen actress. Jean Parker, who at -0 is a veteran' of the screen, married George McDonald, a New York journalist at Las Vegas, Nevada. R?v. W. H. Walton and Mesdames W. H. Walton, J. N. Anderson, W. Ashby, M. Ballard, B. F. Gleuny’s residence on Wednesday evening, on the occasion of her birthday, the visit of a number of .friends taking her completely by surprise. She was presented with a box of chocolates and a posy, and all adjourned to tho sitting room, Avherc a delightful time was spent by the fire. Cards and conversation made the time pass all too qUickly. A happy ' iinterlude took place when Mrs. Glonuy’s daughter, Miss Mavis Glenuy, of Auckland, spoke to all in turn per medium of the telephone. A delicious supper was enjoyed, and tho health of Mrs. Glermy drunk with full musical honours. Those present were: Mesdames J. N. Anderson, A. Coyte, E. S. Crawford, A. H. Brookc-Taylor, and ‘Misses A. L. Harris, Nicholl, V. Gilmour, and S. Camp bell.

TOMATO RELISH. Take 12 large tomatoes, 4 onions, 1 tablespoon curry powder, one pound dark brown sugar, handful salt, one -and a-half tablespoons dry mustard, 5 or six chillies or cayenne, 2oz flour. Slice up tomatoes into pieces size of largewalnut and place in a large dish. Sprinkle some salt over and let stand 13 hours. Out onions in slices, place in another dish, and do same as above. In morning pour oil water, and put together in the saucepan, with vinegar enough to just cover them. Put over fire and boil for 5 minutes. While they are boiling mix up curry and mustard with a little cold vinegar. Put into saucepan with sugar, chillies (or cayenne).. Stir well and boil all together for one hour. Txm. The tram had stopped, and refused to budge. “I think wo should get on better if wo got off,” said one passenger to his neighbour. So they alighted and walked on.
