CRICKET
PATE A V. STRATFORD. GOOD BOWLING BY PAULING. Paten succeeded in defeating JStratford on the local Domain, on Saturday by the narrow margin of four runs. Stratford batted first, but could do nothing, against the bowling of Pauling, who took every wicket except one for the small total of 13 runs. This brings Pauling's total of wickets secured during the season to 54. Gatton was the top scorer for the visitors and the only one to roach double ligures. Patca opened badly, losing Bourko, who had been batting consistently this season, when only eight runs had been scored. Edwards and Bowen took tho score to 28 before Edwards was bowled. Bowen and Maulc kept together till 45 runs had been scored, and it looked like an easy victory for Patea, who had only 17 runs to make to win, with four wickets to fall. However, Bcidre, who was bowling splendidly, took three wickets, leaving the score at 61 when the last man went in. By good luck two byes were registered and Lord was bowled next ball, leaving Patea the winners by four runs. The following wore the scores:
