ITEMS OF INTEREST. Miss R. Harris returns to-day from a visit to friends in Waveriey. Mr. and Airs. C. H. Carey arc visiting Napier for the Fire Brigade Conference. Air. and Airs. N. R. Goad leave today for Hastings, 'whore Air. Goad will represent the Patea Fire Brigade at the U.F.B.A. Conference. Airs. F. W. Grainger, who has been visiting her sisters, Airs. )S. Mcßae and the Misses Gibson, Patsa, leaves to-day on her return to Wellington. Mrs. Hair, Alanaia, is staying with her daughter, Mrs. L. Honeylield, Whenuakura. Airs. Fox and Misses Alargurct and Janet Fox, of Hastings-, arc visiting Mrs. Fox's sister, Mrs. J. Power, Patca. Mr. and Airs. E. Reed and Aliss Reed have returned from a motor caravan tour of the Auckland and Rotorua districts. Air. and Airs. A. J. Gibbs, Alton, will visit New Plymouth on Monday next, when Air. Gibbs will be a competitor in the Taranaki croquet championships.

WHITE CABBAGE PICKLE The following is am excellent recipe: Cut up one large white cabbage and four onions. Sprinkle with salt, and leave to stand for 24 hours, then drain and boil slowly ini one quart of vinegar for 20 minutes. Mix together half a cup of flour, two cups of sugar, one tablespoonful of currie powder, two tablespoonsful of mustard, one pint of vinegar, and one teaspoonful of icayonnc pepper, and boil with the cabbage for five minutes. , PEN.
