SHIP TOTAL LOSS

SCHOONER FAIRBURN. The auxiliary schooner Fairburn, which struck the western breakwater while attempting to leave Westport on Monday evening during the gale and was abandoned by its crew after being badly holed on rocks, has now broken up, and is a total loss, there being no insurances. The Customs collector at Westport is holding a preliminary inquiry for reference to the Department. The vessel had only a small quantity of cargo, and was bound for Little Wanganui to load timber for Wellington. A few drums of benzine were salvaged. The Fairburn was owned by the Kurainca Shipping Co., Ltd.
