APPLICATION FOP AIAPEO. NEW EVIDENCE HINTED. An application for a now trial for Eric. Alareo, who was found guilty and sentenced to death on Wednesday last, on a charge of having murdered his wife Tlielmn Chinee Alareo, is to bo made by Alareo's counsel, Air. 11. F. O’Leary, K.G. It was officially stated that a request would be made to Air. Justice Fair, who presided over the trial, for leave to appeal to the Court of Appeal for a new trial on the grounds that the verdict was against the weight of evidence. The application will probably be bean! in chambers as soon as the necessary formalities have been complied with. It is reported that there was a possibility of evidence for the defence which was not available at the time of the Supreme Court trial being obtained from Australia. Arrangements had been made for Graham. Mareo and Elizabeth Patricia (Betty) Alareo -to sail by the Puahine for England from Wellington on Alarch 7. .Their passages have, been cancelled, as if the application for a now trial were successful their evidence would be required.
