SCHOOL PICNIC.

The Whcnuakura School picnic was held at the Waverloy Beach ou Thursday in ideal weather, there being a largo attendance of scholars and parents. 'The journey to the beach was made by lorries and on arrival the children hastened to have a swim, some 48 being in the water. Hearty appetites did full justice to the delicious lunch, provided by the parents, and then another swim was enjoyed. Races on> tho sand followed, and then a final swim. All were ready to appreciate afternoon tea by this time, and a happy picnic closed with a lolly scramble. Thu following were the winners of tho races: Girls: K. Travers 1, M. Booker 2, M. Hurley 1, S. Mercer 2, D. Handley 1, N. Prout 2, D. Barnes 1, M. Parsons 2. Three-legged races; N. Prout; and M. Parsons -, M. Booker and P. Handley 2. AVhculbamnv race: B. Mercer and D. Barnes 1, N. Prout and L. Hurley 2. Skipping team (first): M. Hurley, S. Mercer, N. Prout, L. Prout. liny tots: N. Wynne, R. Prout. Boysi events: Long jump, G. Martin I, W. Broughton 2; hop, step and jump, W. Broughton 1, <’. Martin 2; three-legged' race, W. Broughton and J. Tangipo 1, H. Parsons and J. Broughton 2; wheelbarrow race, G. Martin and Tan Rowe 1, H. Parsons and J. Tangipo 2. Flat races were won by the following boys: J. MacDonald .1, P. Parsons 2, C. Martin 1, J. Broughton 2, a dead heat between N. MacDonald and Kama Lewis .1, J. Tangipo 1, W. Broughton 2, D. Mercer 1, J. Travers S.
