PATEA DOMAIN BOARD

ORDINARY MEETING

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Patca Domain Board was held on Friday, Mr, E. F. Hemingway presiding. Messrs. Eamsbottom, Locker, Tapps, and Austin were also present. An apology was received from Mr. F. C. Jenkins for non-attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The chairman reported that the unemployed allotted to the board had been engaged during the month in trimming the hedges, cleaning the new shelter belt of trees, eradicating lupin near the swamp, and widening the drain. Mr. Glenny had kindly offered the use of a horse for the horse mower,

in return for grazing. He had therefore arranged for the resumption of the lake paddock for the board’s use.

It was decided that the action of the chairman be confirmed', and that Mr. Glenny’s offer be accepted with thanks.

The chairman stated that an offer had been received by the Unemployment Committee from the Forestry Department of trees for planting on payment of the cost of lifting and forwarding.

It was unanimously resolved that the Department be asked to reserve 1000 macrocarpa trees, and that the actual area to be planted be decided at the next meeting of the board. Members were of the opinion that the whole of the board’s boundary line from the southern end of the present new shelter belt be planted. There will then be a shalter belt of trees extending from Oxford Street to the corner of the board’s property near tlic Eifle Club s targets, and from thence to the Beach Eoad.

It wasi also suggested that a cross nclt be planted from the southern boundary of the new belt to the edge of the swamp at the rear of the trainimg shod. The chairman reported that the tenancy of the lupin paddochs would expire on the 21st inst. It was decided that the rental of the paddochs be 2s Cd per week, payable weekly in advance, tenants to keep the paddocks free from gorse, lupin, and other noxious weeds.

Mr. Locker stated that Mr. Hobbs had for some time past attended at the Domain whilst the playing area was being used by the children, and had seen to it that no damage was caused to any of the board’s property. Mr. Hobbs’ brother, Mr. Locker stated, was an old athlete, and took the keenest interest in the Domain.

It was unanimously resolved on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Locker, that the hearty thanks of the board bo tendered Mr. Hobbs for his efforts, and that he be asked to continue his good work. Accounts were then read and. pas .el for payment and the board rose.
