THE HAYSTACK FIRE
To the Editor. Sir, —I am at a loss to know why the lire brigade poured so much water on a burning haystack, when even if they had succeeded in putting it out it could not possibly have been of any use to the owner. Surely measures to stop the spread of the fire would have been sufficient, instead of emptying the water tower in a hopeless task. I expect it was want of thought on the firemen’s part, but this should bo watched in future, as the pumping of water is no small cost to the borough. I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
