LAWN TENNIS
MANAWATU BEATS WANGANUI,
CHRISTIE CUP MATCH. By winning’ 15 games out of 24 the Manawatu tennis representatives were successful in their challenge for the Christie Cup on Saturday afternoon. The matches were played on the Wanganui Club courts in ideal tennis weather. The courts were in excellent condition for play, and there was not a breath of wind.
Wanganui’s greatest weakness lay in the singles play, in which four of the six men’s matches were lost and all but one of the women’s matches were lost. Wanganui won all the men’s doubles, but lost all the women’s doubles. 'The combined doubles were shared equally by .Wanganui and Manawatu.
The Manawatu women were much stronger than the Wanganui women, both in experience and ability, but the Wanganui men did not play up to standard.
