WOMAN ATTACKED BY ROBBER

STRUGGLE IN KELBURN SHOP.

MAN ESCAPES AFTER TUSSLE

A would-be robber met his match in Mrs. Goodh-ehcre when he attempted a hold-up in her greengrocery shop in Upland Road, Kclburn, Wellington, on Thursday night.

She was busy at the back alone when she heard what she took to be a customer cuter the shop. Going to the front she found herself face to face with a gun, and a young man who said; “Put them up.” Unafraid, she challenged the man, and after a short tussle he ran away. The instrument in the nmn’s hand resembled a water pistol more than anything else. “I knew it was not a revolver,” said Mrs. Goodbehcrc afterwards. “He was only a young man and had apparently been reading Dcadwood Dick talcs. I looked him straight in the eye, and seeing I was not afraid, he struck me twice, once ou the nose and once on'the forehead, with the instrument in his hand. ’ ’

She retaliated by hitting him with a pair of pliers she picked up. She bears evidence of the attack. The man hid on the opposite side of the road. She sought assistance and the police were notified and are investigating.
