PATEA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

ORDINARY ALERTING

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Patea School Committee was held on Friday, Air. R. E. Moore presiding. Rev. C. Aker, and Messrs. Mays, Marshall, Clark, Mrs. Geary, and Mr. Armstrong (head teacher) wore also present. Correspondence was read from the Wanganui Education Board with regard to the appointment of a probationer at the school. It was decided that no further action be taken in the matter. The chairman reported that the annual excursion had been held at Wanganui and had been a pronounced success in every way. The party had been met by the Mayor of Wanganui and Mr. Collins (chairman of tin 1 Education Board), who had done everything possible to make the visit a pleasant one. It was unanimously resolved on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Aker, that a letter of apprecia tion to both the Mayor and the chairman of the Education Board bo sent, thanking them for the kindness shown by them to the party.’ It was decided on the motion of Air. Clark that the balance remaining over from the .picnic fund be donated to the AVangauui Aluscuin fund, which it was stated, was in need of support. On the motion of Air. Aloore, seconded by Air. Alays; Air. Vcitch was appointed hon. auditor to the committee.

The thanks of the committee were ’tendered to Air. Alays for supervising the tennis court during the snmme; and collecting the sum of 17s from players. On the motion of Air. Alays, seconded by Mr. Marshall, it was resolved that the chairman, secretary, and head teacher, and the mover be a committee to go into the question of a basketball ground on the terrace, the committee to report at the next meeting. It was decided on the motion of Air. Clark, seconded by Air. Alays, to apply to the Education Board for a wheelbarrow for the school grounds’ improvements, and that the necessary forms, etc., in connection with the unemployment scheme No. 5 be applied for. On the motion of Mrs. Geary, seconded by Mr. Clark, it was decided that 50 copies of the children’s paper be procured in place of the present magazine. Messrs. Alays ami Alavshall were appointed a visiting committee G the month. The head teacher reported that the board’s carpentering staff had visited the school and altered the doors to open outward. Good use had been made of the swimming bath dining the month. The report was adopted. The dental nurse’s reports for January ami February were read as ilcr: January, fillings 40, ext radio miscellaneous operations 42, total attendances 57; February, fillings 117, extractions 20. miscellaneous operations 98. total attendances 15. The reports were adopted 1 . Accounts wore read and passed for payment and the committee rose.
