WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD

ORDINARY M EETJ.NG. The ordinary monthly meeting of tlie Wanganui Education Board was held on Wednesday, Mr. W. A. Collins presiding. Messrs. Hornblow (Foxton), Hemingway (Patea), Dnkcson (Hnnterville), Adams (Wanganui), Tingcy (Feiiding), Coleman (Marton), and Oram (Palmerston North) were also present. The following business of local and general interest was transacted inter alia:—• SUBSIDIES. The' Education Department wrote stating that it had been decided to write oil or withhold all subsidies approved prior to 1929 and not yet claimed unless there arc special reasons to the contrary. HIHITAHI. The chairman reported that he had travelled to Hihitahi and had opened the) Hew .school there. The journey was one of 200 miles and he reached homo about 11 p.m. He went to show the committee that the board took an interest in little schools as well as big ones. WHENUAKURA. Air. Hemingway brought forward the matter of the dilapidated state of the Whcmiakura School. The building, he declared, was in a. far worse state than members of the board thought. The windows were falling out, and altogether the building was in a very bad state. He suggested that the architect pay a special visit to the school and forward a report to the board in due course. The matter was one of urgency. The suggestion was adopted. RESIGNATION OF MEMBER. The resignation of Mr. Ross as a member of the board was received and accepted. December 4 was the date fixed for the election of u successor. KOHL The Education Department wrote authorising a grant towards installing light in the teacher’s residence.
